We are very sad to report that longtime Adjunct Professor and EPS supporter Douglas M. Morton passed away at home on September 16. A career geologist with the USGS who was stationed at UCR, Doug earned his geology degrees at UCR, Pomona College and UCLA. He was an expert on the geology of southern California and published seminal papers on plutons, pegmatites and landslides. His numerous USGS mapping projects supported countless undergraduate and graduate students at UCR and he sat on many thesis and doctoral committees. Doug is survived by his wife Robyn, his three children Greg, Karen and Cindy, and his grandchildren. A memorial web site has been established at dougmortonlakeview.wordpress.com where his friends and family can post stories and pictures of his life, along with a full list of his publications. UCR has also created the “Douglas M. Morton memorial scholarship fund for student field studies” in his honor and you can find a link to donate to that fund on the memorial web site. Our thoughts are with his family as they mourn the loss of this truly magnanimous and wonderful man.
